May is here and our summer riding schedule is in full swing. The Oshawa Cycling Club Open House was very successful and well attended with quite a few new cyclists registering to become club members. Yesterday's "Tuesday Night Rookie/Recreation/Training Ride" saw almost 80 riders out to get reacquainted with old friends and meet new friends. Fresh air, exercise and enjoying the road were featured prominently.
May is a very busy month for the club. Coming up is this Saturday's Time Trial and Sunday's Women's Ride. Check the calendar and Ride Board for more details. Also in the near future are the Ride of Silence honoring fallen cyclists and on a lighter note, the Lilac Ride in Prince Edward County. We also have members participating in Durham Bike Week which kicks off with the Durham Waterfront Community Ride and attending the Durham Bike Summit at the end of the month. We are a very active club indeed.
Just a reminder: The Tour To Trent is fast approaching and those planning to participate need to get their registration forms in!! It will be a blast.

It was announced that membership registrations are ahead of last year. We have already exceeded the 100 mark and of that almost 25% are new members. Do you think it could be the weather? It looks like it may be possible for the club to reach the 400 member mark this year.
Also the new logo for our feature "Tour To Trent" ride was unveiled and can be seen on the Tour To Trent web page.
Members can look forward to a new edition of the Outspoken newsletter which should be released shortly.
Lastly, 10 riders turned out for a 55km ride on March 7th to unofficially kick off the new season.

Our Oshawa Cycling Club jerseys have always been the coolest around. Now members can purchase the whole kit. Check out all the new OCC gear in the February 2012 Gear Edition of the Outspoken.
The 2011 Oshawa Cycling Awards were distributed at the Annual Banquet held on February 25th. A potluck buffet style dinner was enjoyed with some great dishes!! It was soon realized that there was more dessert then there was main course, but that did not seem to be a problem. The hit of the evening was Drew White's OCC jersey cookies all painted up in our OCC club colours. How's that for club spirit!! Awards for great efforts in 2011 were handed out to some surprised winners. Afterwards, there were prizes to be won and many received some great items including cycling shoes, gift certificates, bike pumps and lots of energy bars and recovery drinks. There was a swap and a buy and sell table. Members could also try on the new OCC riding gear.
Lots of social time was had and it was great to get reacquainted with fellow cyclists and see some members that we haven't seen for the winter months.
As we parted we all reminded each other that its only a few short weeks now when we will all be hitting the roads once again. Check the awards page for the list of all the award winners.
Lots of new pictures have been added to our Flickr page and the slide show in the gallery has been given an update.

Everything!!!
It's a new year.
It's a new season.
We have a new look to our website with some new features.
Our picture gallery is now on Flickr and we have an embedded slide show to preview pictures of some of our club activities.
Our activities are now scheduled on our new embedded calendar which will be regularly updated. It has details of our events and in some cases a map to the location.
There is a new Ride Board with chat feature which can be easily accessed via the button at the top of the page. All members will have to re-establish their passwords to access the new board. Details of upcoming rides and social events will be posted there in an attempt to cut back on all the bulk e-mails being sent out. It is imperative that all members sign up for the new board.
One of our goals for our new site was to design it to be a little more concise and easier to navigate. Please take a few minutes and browse.
I hope you like the new look and features of our new site. If you have any questions or comments just contact us.
